DEMOCRAT IMMIGRATION GRIFT AND 'THE NEW COLOSSUS': "GIVE ME YOUR HUDDLED MASSES YEARNING TO BE FREE... IF DEMS CAN STUFF THE BALLOT BOX"
Vol. I | Issue. 39 | October 28, 2021
Emma Lazarus (1849-1887) was the author of the epically beautiful sonnet “The New Colossus”. Her masterpiece was installed on the base of the Statue of Liberty in 1903.
The message of “The New Colossus” was a siren call to the world’s huddled impoverished masses and has been an inspiration to humanity ever since. Emma’s sonnet gave voice to Lady Liberty’s already majestic presence in New York Harbor. This invitation as written is aspirational and invites all of the suffering people of the world to just come on in.
Unfortunately, poetry, unlike prose, doesn’t deal with reality.
America, during its early days, had somewhat of a de facto open door policy. This was not so much intentional as it was by happenstance. Back in the day, our borders were still being formed, including those with Canada and Mexico. Even once formed, it was simply impossible based upon our limited government infrastructure as an administrative reality to prevent someone from just getting off the boat, swimming across the Rio Grande, or just walking into the country while on an afternoon stroll.
Our early immigration policies from the Revolutionary War through the Civil War did specify and outline some processes for immigration and naturalization, but the standards, and more importantly, the ability to administer those restrictions were limited.
During the post-Civil War Era, Industrialization and the other attendant requirements to populate the nation were required to keep the American Industrial juggernaut machine humming. At that point, our immigration policy allowed for the gates to open, close, and reopen as the often colliding politics and labor needs required or at least tolerated.
From the latter 19th Century through today, there has been no cessation in the political controversies surrounding who is allowed in and how that process is administered.
However, the Election of Ronald Reagan in 1980 created a new sense of urgency for the Democrat Party to find a new source of ballot-box stuffing. Reagan’s landslide victory against Jimmy Carter wasn't supposed to happen according to talking heads of that era. The Reagan sweep captured a preponderance of all of the independent votes, and created an entirely new voter shift to the so-called "Reagan Democrats". Nixon’s 1968 campaign forged the 'solid south' which put the entire south into Republican hands. Reagan’s tectonic conversion of lifelong Democrats to the Republican column became a death knell to Democrat victories in national elections.
That was the Democrat “aha” moment.
Democrats with their big-city machines had always been adroit in stuffing the ballot box to win the gold on Election Day. What better way to add new voters to the rolls than illegal aliens of a certain origin and most of whom are likely to become Democrats.
Our immigration policies and processes since their inception have been fraught with contradiction, political schizophrenia, racism, virulent antisemitism, and Asian exclusionism. However, regardless of their pernicious formulations and administration, there has been a general consensus, until now, that our nation needs borders and that there should be a process to administer those borders.
The current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, a man of no independent thought, conviction, or ability, has administered over an immigration process without regard for our sovereignty, security, or health during the pandemic. Currently, his chosen class of border breachers are allowed into the US without being vaccinated, and without any process of meaningful vetting.
It has become the ubiquitous manta of American culture that "We are a nation of immigrants". That statement is both true and a truism. It's like saying that the sun is bright or knowledge is good. The political expression of this truism has planted a demagogic seed by The American Pravda. The narrative that follows is that those who advocate for a rational immigration policy and border control are racist and xenophobic.
The Democrat Industrial Complex actually would not care about open borders were they to allow chords of would-be Republicans into the country. They are however passionate about keeping the borders open to those who are likely to guarantee a national Democrat majority in perpetuity.
The Democrat approach to who gets in and who doesn’t is nihilistically sophisticated. Just recently the Biden clique made clear to a wave of potential Cuban immigrants that they would be sent back. What better example could there be than acceptance of those people who are the victims of political repression living on what JFK described as "that imprisoned Island".
Emma, The vision of your great “The New Colossus” still represents the beautiful dream of an endlessly welcoming America. In that regard, we need to do our best in bringing your dream to fruition. However, in striving to that end, we can never let the beauty of your poetry neglect the underlying realities of the world we live in.
We need to keep our borders safe, intact, and make American Sovereignty and Security our first priority at the border.
