THE TYRANNY OF REPRESENTATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION: THE AMERICAN POLITICAL CLASS
Vol. III | Issue. 223 | March 25, 2024
The Stamp Act of 1765 gave rise to James Otis’ famous slogan “Taxation without Representation is Tyranny." The Stamp Act forced the American colonists to pay a tax on all documents produced in the colonies as a revenue-raising tool. This was the spark that lit the fire, making way for the American Revolution. Since then, the term “No Taxation without Representation” has been used as a rallying cry throughout American history. But when obvious things turn to shades of grey, becoming too obfuscated for the average person to understand, ugly things creep into the vacuum of confusion. That ugliness and decay are what has become of the American system, destroying our Constitution and Republic.
Here’s what I mean…
We have elections, so it can’t be stated accurately that we have “Taxation without Representation.” We do have elected representation, but our 248-year-old system has gradually given rise to an entire political class that has been given license to lie, cheat, steal, and most importantly, completely ignore the will of the American people. The current state of affairs in our Constitutional Republic is arguably worse than it was during the days when we were ruled by jolly old England. In the years leading up to the American Revolution, it was clear that the fledgling colonies, soon to become a nation through force of arms, were ruled by a distant monarchy.
The "Shot heard round the world", the Declaration of Independence, and ultimately the United States Constitution made clear that we were now an independent nation, completely self-governing, and untethered to any other power structure. We had temporary politicians, the most prominent of whom was George Washington, who after eight years of war, tragedy, and neglect of his family and his beloved Mount Vernon, was effectively summoned to the Office of the Presidency, an office which Washington was critical in defining, perfecting, and elevating into becoming the aspirational symbol of national leadership for every free nation on earth. After his victory as General of the Continental Army, there was no precedent for either an office or a man voluntarily stepping down and handing over the reins to the next man elected by the will of the people. King George, still running England, was incredulous when told Washington would step down voluntarily after his tenure in power was up and pass the torch to the man chosen by the will of the people. Washington kept his word and created an entirely new concept: once you’re done, you’re done… Now go back to your plow.
The American Revolution and the precedent set by George, make clear, that there will be no more “Taxation without Representation.” That revolutionary idea is now dead in America, and until it is definitively revived, this country will remain adrift and left to the rapacious predator class of professional politicians. On both sides of the aisle, there will be the lifetime incumbents who pretend to act in the interests of our nation and individual states, and in many cases, your town or city.
The worst of the worst of these and the most well-known to us are those who we easily come to be familiar with because they are on the national stage and are ubiquitous in our collective faces. Naturally, and due to my antipathy for the Left and those who serve its Marxist ends, I will pick Chuck Schumer as the most virulent example of such an ugly scar on our political system. Schumer, like so many other careerists, continues to be re-elected, ignoring, in fact, defying the will of the people whom he represents. I’m unaware of Schumer’s record addressing issues that are particular to the state of New York. Even assuming that he is accountable to his constituents in that manner, he, as Senate Majority Leader, is effectively the leader of a political gang called “Democrats.” Schumer, by and through whatever means he can avail himself, defines the will of the American people on a daily basis.
On virtually every issue that Americans have made their voices heard, Schumer ignores them.
He advocates for policies that keep our borders open to rapists, criminals, terrorists, and the like when the American people want an immigration system that vets those seeking American citizenship.
He advocates for policies that lead to crime in our cities, and most recently, the abandonment of our only ally, Israel.
Schumer was an ardent advocate for the Iran nuclear deal, the brilliant brainchild of former President Barack Hussein Obama and current Shadow President.
Schumer, terrified of being defeated at the polls by what has become the Marxist branch of the Democrat Party, which is now the main thrust of the Democrat political gang, is being discussed here only for purposes of illustration due to his egregious actions and prominence.
On the Republican side, we now have a new sobriquet that I will credit to Ted Cruz, which is even more aptly named the “Undocumented Democrat,” sorry RINOS, but this one is even better than you. Thank you for your service. Mitt Romney would be a fine example of such. Romney, unlike Schumer, is a seemingly very decent person; he just seems to want to be a Democrat in terms of his voting patterns.
The point here is that in America 2024, we don’t have “Taxation without Representation”. We have something even more sinister; we have “Representation without Representation”. We pull the lever of a Republican candidate only to learn later on that he votes more often than not with Democrats. They’ve just decided to pretend to represent you and your conservative interests.
As for Schumer, I must say he is one of the most vile, treacherous, and dangerous elected officials in American history. There have been many who have been dislodged, but few whom I can remember who pose such an existential threat to our country by voting for policies that make America and American life more dangerous. Schumer has abandoned our country for his own personal power and our only ally, Israel, at a time of its greatest existential peril, to encourage meddling in Israel’s domestic political affairs.
America today is a country whose political system embraces “Representation without Representation.” Don’t get me wrong, though, the U.S. Government will still take your taxes…
The American political class is rotten to the core. But they want to stay in power forever, so what do they do? They kick their most feared political opponent off of the ballot, seek to lock him up and confiscate his assets. Guess who? Now that’s what I call “Representation without Representation”.
The Left, you know, the crowd that hates America first then the rest of Western Civilization, loves the word “Choice”. You know, Pro-Choice, Consumer Choice, etc. The one choice that they hate is the right for American citizens to vote for the candidate of their “choice.”
Guess why!?
