Um... the history in this article is wrong. The Civil War was fought to keep the union together. Lincoln said as much. Slavery didn’t end on 6/19/1865. Slavery ended on the ratification of the 13th amendment on 12/6/1865. So yea....

“My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union; and what I forbear, I forbear because I do not believe it would help to save the Union.”

We sincerely appreciate your clear educational material of historical events about our beautiful United States of America.

I worked in downtown at NMH Chicago for many years, and We the “whites” have been subjected on a daily basis to an aggressive monologue regarding slavery. When I tried mentioning about the civil war, it was readily dismissed !!
