Interesting take. I certainly agree with you in some respects and disagree in others. Freud certainly had his influence on the left, but I think you’re giving him more weight than he deserves. I think that they borrowed Freudian concepts and mixed them with Marx, Kant, and the writings of the Frankfurt school generally to come up with the current dogma that’s plaguing the left side of the aisle. However, the natural result of what has happened is that the extreme left is going to eat its own tail. You simply cannot have numerous classes of people competing to be the most oppressed without each faction turning on others. Case and point are the classes that are “white adjacent.” Suddenly, the “oppressor” class is expanding. Only time will tell if this is correct in the long run. Great column though.
